A PAIR of energetic Alcester residents have raised more than £5,000 for Parkinson’s UK running the London Marathon at the weekend.
Ania Airlie and Phil Hodges, from Alcester ran the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday (April 23) and between them raised £5,300 for Parkinson’s UK, a charity which works to find a better treatments and a cure for the disease.
They completed the 26.2 mile challenge in four hours and 44 minutes, in the month that Parkinson’s UK has launched its new fundraising campaign We Won’t Wait, highlighting the urgent need for new and better treatments for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
46 year-old Ania was running for her auntie who is living with Parkinson’s and Phil, aged 51 ran for friends who have been diagnosed.
The duo joined a 235-strong team of runners of all abilities who chose to support the charity which hopes to raise over £325,000 from the event so it can continue with its vital research work to find better treatments and a cure, and improve the lives of the 127,000 people in the UK who are living with Parkinson’s.
