Alcester Poppy Appeal campaign gets off to a cracking start

Redditch Editorial 5th Nov, 2021   0

THE Alcester branch of the Royal British Legion officially launched its Poppy Appeal last week at Alcester Methodist Church.

The launch event itself got the campaign off to a cracking start, raising £265 for the cause.

Getting the appeal underway were Town Councillor and former mayor of Alcester Gill Forman and Low Bailiff Mark Venables,

Organiser Dave Malin said the target this year was to reach and hopefully surpass last year’s Covid-hit total of £7,500.

“The first three tins we’ve got are absolutely rammed with notes and coins so I’m really looking forward to counting them,” he said.

Poppies will be on sale at Waitrose for the next two weeks while a small army of 40 volunteers will also be out and about in Alcester selling poppies too.

Remembrance Sunday is on November 14.
