Alcester set for final phase of re-surfacing

Redditch Editorial 21st Jan, 2017   0

THE final re-surfacing work on Alcester High Street is about to be undertaken.

Over the last five years several large scale improvements have been completed in the market town to improve the quality and standard of the roads.

Over the next two months two schemes will be undertaken.

The first will entail the replacement of the Birmingham Road surface, from the entry to Alcester to the Grammar School. The work will be undertaken in half term week, starting February 20 and a one way system will be implemented for the week.

The second, and more testing scheme, will be for the complete replacement of the High Street road surface from St Nicholas Church, Church Street, Henley Street to the junction with School Road.

An added complication will be the proximity of the mediaeval Alcester town hall and special arrangements will be put in place to ensure the safety of the building.

This work will require a complete road closure from March 6-10.

County councillor Mike Gittus pledged he and town ward member Coun Eric Payne would be working closely with agencies, residents and shopkeepers to keep disruption to an absolute minimum.

“It’s wonderful to see Warwickshire county council continue to invest in Alcester, long acknowledged as Warwickshire’s premier market town,” said Coun Gittus.
