Alcester steps back in time with Court Leet for a right grand celebration

ALCESTER turned back the clock on Saturday for it’s annual Court Leet celebration which this year was on the theme of ‘Alcester Through the Ages’.

And residents turned out in force to enjoy the celebration as the popular market town stepped back in its very own time machine.

“It was a wonderful day,” said Court Leet Low Bailiff David Parkes.

“The sun was shining, the streets were full of people and there was live music outside the pubs. It was an absolute success.”

It was also an opportunity for local organisations to raise money for their own charities, plus a donation to High Bailiff Steve Brown’s charity fund, which will be distributed to local good causes at the end of his year.

Next year organising the event will fall on Mr Parkes, and in a sneak preview he said the theme for 2019 will be the Magical World of Disney.

“We always try to get the children involved as much as possible and it was only when we looked into Disney that we realised just how all emcompassing it is,” he said.

“For instance I didn’t know they own Star Wars, so there will be plenty of scope.

“It’s a wonderful day, the people come out on the streets, the shops dress their windows and really get involved and hopefully next year will be as successful as this year’s event has been.”

District Councillor Mike Gittus said: “It was a very popular day and Alcester residents turned out in force to party to live music, fun-fair, food and drink.

“Alcester Town certainly knows how to enjoy itself.”
