A QUIRKY and much-loved Alcester tea room served its final cuppa last Thursday (February 27).

Orangemabel, which specialised in spectacular cakes, teas and refreshments in vintage crockery had been a colourful addition to High Street for the past 12 years.

Its owner, Jayne Richman Bolt decided it was time to hang up her apron in the town so she could spend more time with her young granddaughters.

She will, however, be kept busy with her other business, Shakespaw Cat Cafe in Stratford, and an outside catering company.

She confessed the last day had been an ‘emotional rollercoaster’, adding: “I’ve had lots of lovely customers come in and see us for the last time.

“We’ve had cards, flowers and presents – it’s been amazing – I am really going to miss them.

“It’s been a wonderful time on the High Street – it’s been really so humbling to know we made such an impact.”

Keith Marsden who regularly cycles over from Stratford for a cuppa.

Regular Keith Marsden from Stratford was one of the last customers to enjoy a coffee: “I used to come here three times a week and moved away for a few years, he said. “I’ve only recently started coming back, so I’m disappointed to see it’s going.

“It’s always been a great little place. The cakes and coffee are very good, and the staff have always been really nice so it’s been a nice place to stop.

“I am sure the coffee and cake eaters will miss it a lot.”

Lovers of a good brew will not have to wait too long to slake their thirst as a new cafe and bar, Chapter 23, will open on the premises on March 8.
