Alcester teenager Euan brings some Mersey magic to his first release

A DRIVING beat, jangly guitars and a strong riff – it’s all in the first single from Alcester teenager Euan Blackman released this Friday, March 13.

Called ‘Think About You’ it’s an impressive debut for the 18-year-old who was born at the Alex and educated at Alcester Academy and Alcester Grammar School.

Now studying at LIPA – the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts which was founded by Sir Paul McCartney and Mark Featherstone-Witty – the singer/songwriter and guitar player is finding himself immersed in the world of The Beatles and the Mersey sound.

“You really do feel the presence of Lennon and McCartney here – you keep pushing yourself and asking – would this be good enough for them?” said Euan, who’s the brother of Jack Blackman who runs Alcester’s highly successful Tuery music sessions at the Cross Keys pub.

“I wrote ‘Think About You’ in my first week here then spent a few months in the studio working on it before recording it with a few good friends.”

He counts Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and The 1975 as among his influences and the release has proved strong enough to receive the thumbs up from local independent radio stations and Liverpool music journalists sent preview copies.

Not that Euan is a stranger to the music business. Supported by his parents he’s gigged with his brother and regularly helps with the Tuery Sessions when he’s back in Alcester.

And he’s happy to pay tribute to Alcester Academy’s highly successful Rock Academy which he described as a brilliant opportunity to play live music.

“It was my dream to come here and study in Liverpool and what I’ve learnt has been invaluable,” said Euan.

‘Think About You’ is out on Friday, March 13 and is available everywhere.
