ALCESTER is the star in a new TV crime drama featuring actress Sally Phillips in the lead role as a high-end hairdresser who opens a village salon that becomes the hub of secrets and revelations.

Commissioned by the BBC, The Hairdresser Mysteries is a six 45-minute series filmed and produced in the West Midlands, and uses various locations in and around the town.

The hero filming location is Church House in Butter Street which has been turned into a 1970s-style hairdressing salon run by Lily Petal, who with her own brand of hairdressing intuitive empathy and understanding, solves the village mysteries.

Mark and Kath Cargill, who live at Bridge House in Oversley Green, had their home chosen as a key location.

He said: “They filmed both inside and outside our house which was effectively taken over for the day’s shooting.

Mark told the Observer that it wasn’t easy with over 50 people in their house but the production crew ensured they weren’t disrupted too much.

“The crew and actors were very pleasant and courteous leaving the house as it was before.

“From our perspective it was fascinating to see how a TV drama was filmed.

“Producers have used this area previously for Shakespeare & Hathaway, so know it well.”
