Alcester Town Council picks up top award for quality

Redditch Editorial 4th Mar, 2021   0

ALCESTER Town Council has received the prestigious Quality Award as part of the Local Council Award Scheme.

The award recognises that the council achieves good practice in governance, community engagement and council improvement.

It confirms the town council goes above and beyond their legal obligations, leading their community and continually seeking opportunities to improve and develop further.

Of the 9,000 town and parish councils in England, only 122 which have been awarded this status.

The Local Council Award Scheme is a peer assessed programme designed to provide the tools and encouragement to those councils at the beginning of their improvement journeys as well as promoting and recognising those at the cutting edge.

The aim is that by sharing best practice, standards will be driven up thereby improving the offer to local communities allowing local authorities to reach their full potential.

Alcester Mayor Councillor Gill Forman said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the council and is a well-deserved reward for the exceptional hard work that the town clerk, Vanessa Lowe, and her team have put in to meet the criteria required for the award.

“I know Vanessa and her team, with the support of all councillors, will not rest on their laurels and will continue to look for ways to improve the services and facilities for the residents of Alcester.

“Congratulations to Vanessa and her team.”

Looking forward, the council is now reviewing ways in which it can keep improving its offer to the local community and would welcome input from residents and partners.

Alcester Town Council, and other local councils like it, is at the front line of the government’s localism agenda, delivering services whilst remaining efficient and cost-effective.

Currently Alcester Towwn Council provides a range of services including maintaining four play areas, several recreational open spaces, a cemetery, the Eric Payne Community Centre, management of more than 130 allotments, health and wellbeing projects and activities, issuing grants to local organisations and responding to planning applications.
