SEVERN Trent have completed work relaying new water pipes along Alders Drive ahead of schedule.
The company had set aside 11 weeks to do the job but in fact it was completed in just over two.
Their decision to close one lane along Alders Drive caused massive disruption for residents in Winyates East and Winyates Green, particularly as they’d blocked off one end of Far Moor Lane, cutting people off from the Diamond Bus service No 62.
Such was the disruption that County Councillor Tom Baker-Price (Con, Arrow Valley East) managed to get the cones on the road lifted.
However after consultation with highways officers at County Hall it was agreed the one-way system was the best way forward – with the county laying on a special bus service for residents of Winyates Green to access other parts of the town and the town centre.
Now the work has been completed ahead of schedule and Alders Drive has re-opened to traffic in both directions.
Severn Trent is now expected to continue the pipe replacement work along the Warwick Highway, potentially causing more disruption.
A company spokesperson said: “We’ve completed our water pipe replacement work on Alders Drive more quickly than expected and all of the roads in the area are back to normal.
“Before we start any work on Warwick Highway we need to carry out some investigations on the condition of the pipe to understand exactly what needs to be done.
“Once that’s complete we’ll need to replace the pipes beneath the roundabouts on Coventry Highway and Warwick Highway. We’re still carefully planning this work so that it can be completed with minimal impact to local traffic and we’ll provide more information to people in the near future.”
