POLICE have issued an alert after three reports of someone calling himself ‘DC Clarke’ phoning people from a withheld number and claiming there have been fraudulent transactions on their bank accounts or credit cards.
The incidents follow reports of fraudsters claiming to be from the tax office trying to get people’s bank details and even of cases of con artists claiming they can stop nuisance phone calls – in return for the victim revealing their bank details.
Police say no legitimate organisation would ask people for such information over the phone and that people should ignore such calls and put the phone down.
