A NEW state-of-the-art piece of equipment is now in use by the Speech and Language Therapy and Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) teams at the Alex.
The new portable nasendosope stack – which was generously donated by the Alexandra Hospital League of Friends – will allow Speech and Language Therapy to assess patients on the wards who have complex swallowing difficulties and help prevent chest infections by identifying silent aspiration.
Voice patients will also benefit from using the system when carrying out vocal exercises in Speech and Language Therapy.
ENT patients will also be able to see images of their examinations and recordings can then be used for teaching purposes too.
Speech and Language Therapy manager, Morag Inglis said: “This piece of equipment will really help to enhance patient care and experience. Many thanks to the Alexandra Hospital League of Friends for their support in purchasing this equipment.”
