THE ALEXANDRA Hospital has received a £3.9 million funding boost.
The money will enable the expansion of endoscopy services at the Alex, with the work due to be completed by the end of 2023.
This is the latest in a series of investments in services at Redditch’s hospital which also includes a brand new Breast Imaging Unit, a multi-million pound investment in new operating theatres and state-of-the-art robot-assisted surgery.
It also follows news of the return of the Garden Suite to the Alex, with Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust confirming the service will be back and open at the hospital by the end of February 2023.
This is part of a £10million fund that will also see a series of improvements to maternity and children’s services at the Worcestershire Royal.
The improvements at the Worcestershire Royal also include a second dedicated obstetric theatre and maternity triage and assessment unit, remodelling of the Riverbank Children’s ward and a new combined paediatric assessment unit and children’s clinic.
Rachel Maclean, MP for Redditch welcomed this investment.
She said: “With demand increasing for endoscopies, the expansion of this service will deliver better outcomes for patients – something we can all welcome.
“And now this final business case has been improved, we can look ahead with confidence to the Alex’s bright future, and that’s what I’m doing right now as I develop my Long-Term Plan for the Alex.
“I’ve long said that we can welcome investment in the Alex, whilst at the same time continue the fight to return a maternity and children’s service to our hospital.
“As my reports into returning a maternity and children’s service make clear, we need these services to be provided at the Alex and at Worcestershire Royal. That’s what I have been fighting for and I’ll continue to do so.”
