WEST Midlands Railway has been revealed at the official Travel Partner for the Redditch Tour Series town centre bike race on May 9.
The thrills and spills of the bike race will be once again held in the town for the eighth year and this will be the second year that West Midlands Railway has backed the event, which will be shown on TV screens across the globe.
Around 15,000 people are expected to turn out for the event which brings hundreds of elite cyclists to the town for a pro race which takes place between 5pm and 9pm, with community activities and inter-services races taking place from 2pm.
With so many spectators expected, it’s key that the town has sustainable travel plans in place and West Midlands Railway will once again be offering a great solution for those travelling from outside the area for the event with Redditch station just metres from the race track and all the live action!
Richard Brooks a director for West Midlands Railway said: “This is a great opportunity to show off the town and the surrounding area to thousands of visiting Tour fans while creating a unique community event.
“We look forward to bringing people right into the heart of the action with our Cross City train services which, from next year, will start to see the arrival of a brand new fleet of dedicated trains on the route as we invest £1 billion in improving local rail services.”
Lorna Jeynes, project manager for the Tour Series in Redditch said: “I would like to say a huge thanks to West Midlands Railway for their continued support.
“Without support from the likes of West Midlands Railway and our other sponsors, we would not be able to host such a wonderful event in our wonderful county.
“We still have packages available if you would like to support the event, with adverts starting at just £150.”
