ALL ages came together at St Leonard’s Church in Beoley on Remembrance Sunday as the parish paid tribute to those who had fought and died for the freedom of this country.
Parish Council chair Trevor Bland said: “We wish to thank all those who attended.
“Sadly, compared with previous years, this was a very limited affair owing to the current coronavirus restrictions.
“The Parish Council would like to thank Rev. Paul Irving, Vicar of Beoley, for allowing us to represent him at the ceremony, as he was engaged conducting an online Remembrance Service.”
Those in attendance were Councillor John Merrell and Peter Joynes, together with a representative of the Royal Engineers but Coun Bland said what particularly struck him was the presence to two young families.
“A child from one family laid a poppy at the Memorial and, from the second family, Elisa and Connie Raftry laid a picture which they had prepared specially – possibly with a little help from their mum!
“We feel it of utmost importance that the youngsters of today are not allowed to lose sight of the reasons we celebrate Remembrance Day and remember all those who gave their lives that we should all have a better life.”
He also paid tribute to Alan Brown who flew the Union Flag at half mast.
