LIFESAVING equipment is to be available anytime in Redditch with the addition of a public defibrillator outside the Town Hall.
A CPAD, or Community Public Access Defibrillator, is being added next to the entrance of Redditch Borough Council’s offices in Walter Stranz Square.
A new secure cabinet will mean it can be available for use at all times by dialling 999 and quoting the code on the door.
The machine had been kept behind reception at the Town Hall, but thanks to work by Redditch Borough Council and the Charlotte & Craig Saving Hearts Foundation, it can now be made available to the public.
Rob Underwood, co-founder of the Charlotte & Craig Saving Hearts Foundation said: “Thanks to everyone who donated the money to our charity so we could buy this cabinet, and for joining our mission to put more public defibrillators in Redditch. Every minute that passes during cardiac arrest reduces the chances of survival by ten per cent so having them quickly and publicly accessible really matters.”
The foundation is one of the chosen charities of the Mayor of Redditch, Coun Joe Baker, who said: “It’s always good to support the Charlotte & Craig Saving Hearts Foundation as they do so much work in the community raising awareness of the need for this equipment. I’ve always made it my goal to support this cause.”
Rob added: “Hopefully there will be many more of these. We hope to raise £50,000 this year for 25 or 30 CPADs across the borough and make Redditch more heart safe. Please get in touch if you would like to get involved or contribute in any way.”
The secure cabinet was paid for by a donation to the foundation from Redditch Fire Station social club, using money raised from events including their annual bonfire. Redditch Borough Council is providing the space, installation, and electrics for it.
