All faiths and none spread goodwill for Redditch Mitzvah Day at Alex

PEOPLE of all faiths and none were at the Alexandra Hospital on Sunday to mark the first Redditch Mitzvah Day.

Mitzvah Day is a Jewish-led day of social action that brings thousands of people together worldwide regardless of faith to give their time, not their money, to make a difference to the community around them.

The Redditch event was organised by Melanie Mann and Yvonne Stollard on behalf of the Worcestershire Interfaith Forum, which brought together a team from local Jewish, Christian, Baha’i and Muslim communities.

They served free cakes and hot drinks to the patients, visitors and staff at the Alex.

The Reverend Owain Bell, chair of Worcestershire Interfaith Forum, said: “It was a wonderful and joyous occasion where people of different faiths came together in mutual respect and friendship to work on a social action project.”

Hospital Chaplin Rev David Ryan added: “It felt good and warm for the hospital, and to affirm the multi-faith nature of the chaplaincy.”

Councillor Bill Hartnett, Leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “It was a great to join this multi-faith organised Mitzvah Day, chatting and serving tea and cake to staff, visitors and patients.”

Ward Councillor Joe Baker added: “It was wonderful to get involved in this event and to learn a bit more about the Jewish faith. It was also great to meet patients, visitors and staff at our wonderful hospital.”
