THE Redditch Women of Achievement evening has brought an instant £1,000 boost for Leanna Horne, the winner of the Lifetime Achievement award.

Leanna is the world’s No 1 female F31 Club Throw Athlete, but without funding to pursue her sport, has launched a £20,000 appeal so she can compete on the international stage.

“It started when we met her at the awards evening,” said Rob Underwood of Charlotte and Craig’s Saving Hearts Foundation.

“She was telling me about her next Games, in Spain, and how she needs to take two carers with her to compete, but has no funding. She even has to pay for her own kit.

“I spoke to my wife Maggie about making a donation and our trustees,” he added.

“Councillor David Bush was there from Redditch Round Table and I asked if there was anyway they could help and we’ve put £500 each together for Leanna.

“It’s a fantastic idea to support a young athlete, we want to put the ability into disability.”
