A MOTHER of three is appealing for support as she takes on the Stratford Half Marathon on May 13.
Maxi Woodfield is hoping to raise £200 for the Shakespeare Hospice, which is currently caring for her friend’s husband.
Maxi was spurred into action when work colleague at Rotary International Jean Suitor was told her husband Paul’s cancer had returned.
Paul is currently undergoing treatment for Stage 4 Melanoma in an effort to buy him more time in his battle with the disease.
“Paul is such a lovely bloke and he is receiving treatment to help prolong his life,” said Maxi, from Alcester.
Desperate to help in some way and astonished by the love, care an attention Paul is receiving from hospice staff, Maxi, aged 40, knew she had to do something to help.
“I do not know how they do it. The staff at the hospice are absolutely marvelous,” she said.
“And it’s not just the patient they care for, but their family as well. They give so much and are a superb charity to support.
“Paul has been attending the Shakespeare Hospice on a regular basis for therapy and counselling.
“I would like to give something back and raise some money for the amazing things the hospice does for Paul and other people in his position.”
Her training has been going on apace with lunchtime and weekend runs as she ramps up the mileage close to the 13 mile half marathon distance.
“I really hope people will sponsor me and help this cause which relies on donations from people like you and me to keep providing a service which includes Children and Family Support, Bereavement Support, Counselling, Chaplaincy and Social Work,” said Maxi.
