AGE UK in Redditch say although they are closing their local office, their services to people aged 50+ in the town will still be continuing.
The charity, which covers Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest, says it has been forced to economise due to rising costs and is centralising its office function in Bromsgrove.
However spokeswoman Jo Hughes insisted that all the activities, support and advice they offer people in Redditch would continue, despite the changes.
“People are obviously concerned and we want to put their minds at ease and let them know that all services will be continuing as before,” she said.
These include its free advice service available to anyone over 50 and any carers or family of anyone supporting someone over the age of 50.
Activities and classes across the town will also be continuing, including keep fit, Tai Chi, art classes, bowls and tea dances.
The charity has also created a new ‘At Home’ service, linking together its Help at Home, Handy Person, Gardener, Foot Care, Befriending and Care Call branches under one umbrella organisation on 01527 871840 or www.ageuk.org-uk/brwf
“We’re bringing everything together and focusing on the person, making appointments in people’s homes,” said Jo.
“We will still be supporting the community in Redditch and we do not want to upset people that things are suddenly going to stop – they are not, they are continuing.”
The charity is still appealing for any community centre or business that can offer them office space in Redditch to get in touch with them – call 01527 570490 if you can help.
Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest will close its office at the Ecumenical Centre in Redditch on April 30.
