Allotments targeted two nights in a row

Redditch Editorial 30th Apr, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

HEARTLESS thieves have broken into allotments sheds two nights in succession and stole tools specially adapted for the disabled.

The raiders struck at Winyates Green allotments last Saturday night when they stole a few of the tools but then returned the following evening and stole much more of the equipment from a shed used by disabled gardeners.

Beat bobby PC Paul Kennedy said the tools would be instantly recognisable as they’d been adapted and urged anyone who came across them to contact the police.

“The disabled users have got specially raised beds and have specifically adapted tools to help them and these would be quite recognisable for what they are,” he said.

The chairman of the allotment association chairman Keith Edwards said security had now been beefed up.

“We’ve fitted extra locks and wire mesh over windows and we’ll be using anti-theft paint to stop this happening in the future.

“Obviously nothing of great value is kept in the sheds just the tools – and I can’t say what I think of the people who have done this to us.”

Anyone who has any information about the thefts or who carried them out should ring the police on 101 and ask for PC Kennedy.
