AROUND 300 people of all ages turned out to witness Redditch’s official Proclamation of King Charles III which took place at the Bandstand in Church Green in the town centre.

In an attendance was Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, alongside members of Redditch Borough Council, West Mercia Police, and other organisations, such as Scouts and Guides.

The Accession Proclamation was read by Mayor of Redditch, Coun Ann Isherwood, read out the declaration and paid tribute to The Late Queen Elizabeth II.

She said: “From the first week of being mayor, I was part of the Queen’s Jubilee, something I will never forget that in the depths and darkness of Covid we could all come together again as a community in Redditch,

“Since that day, I have seen more communities coming together and that fills my heart with so much joy.

“And, if there’s anything I can do, I will never be the Queen of England but if I can take a leaf out of her book and put people at the forefront of everything I do – Redditch will be great.”

After the Proclamation, the crowd hailed ‘God Save The King’ and Rev Paul Lawlor led those in attendance to sing the National Anthem to conclude the ceremony.

Three cheers were also given to the new monarch.
