AN ALVECHURCH teenager hopes to be crowned the beauty of Birmingham.

Abbie Dean, who works at Chapters hairdressers in Bromsgrove, has made it through to the finals of Miss Birmingham after being spotted at the Clothes Show Live.

The 17-year-old was urged to sign up for the competition despite never taking part in a pageant in her life.

She was then picked by a panel of judges to be one of 40 out of 400 to make it to the finals.

As part of the competition she will be holding a fund-raising event at Alvechurch Village hall on Saturday, February 27, where all the money will go to the charity Beauty with a Purpose.

Hair, make-up and beauty products will all be sold from 7pm until 9pm, with entry costing £5.

The talented teenager will also be making an eco-dress as part of the competition.

The main event will take place at the Burlington Hotel on March 15, where Abbie could be picked to go on to take part in Miss England.

Speaking to the Standard she said the competition appealed to her because it raised money for charities and promoted sustainable living.

“I never thought I would have the confidence to do something like this, but it is such a good cause and it is really exciting. My family and friends have been really supportive and everyone is telling me how proud they are.”
