Ambitious Syrian refugee sets up a new food stall in Redditch Market

AN AMBITIOUS Syrian refugee has set up a new food stall called ‘Tasty and Healthy’ in Redditch Market.

Run by Ghali, aged 39, the new stall will sell traditional Syrian dishes.

Ghali initially struggled to find work after arriving under the county’s refugee resettlement programme so he took a volunteering role in a print shop.

He then decided to get into the food industry and enrolled on a health and hygiene course.

Using the benefit money he received from the County set up the stall and later designed his own posters and display boards.

The business was launched last month after Ghali asked a friend, another refugee, to help him.

Together they put together several dishes using their own family recipes to bring colour and taste to the people of Redditch.

Colin Barnett, adult learning manager at Worcestershire County Council said: “We are delighted Ghali was able to bring his idea to life.

“Thanks to the support we offer him he is able to share his heritage and the food of his homeland with a new audience.

“We wish him all the luck with the new venture.”
