KAREN Lumley, MP for Redditch County, says that she is delighted her friend Andy Street was has been selected as the Conservative candidate to run as the mayor of the West Midlands.
Redditch joined the new West Midlands Combined Authority as a non-constituent member last year.
Residents won’t get the chance to vote who the mayor will be as Redditch will be a non-constituent member, but Mrs Lumley believes Mr Street will be a force for good in the town.
“The role will have powers focused at continuing the economic recovery of the West Midlands region, which can only be good for Redditch,” she said.
Mr Street, the managing director of John Lewis, is to step down from the role at the end of this month in order to fight the mayoral campaign for the Conservatives with the election scheduled for May 2017.
