Angus takes up Iron Man gauntlet

A COUNTY doctor is set to take on a gruelling three-part challenge to raise money for charities close to his heart.

Donations made to Angus Thomson, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, will be split between maternity services and the Alzheimer’s Society.

As part of the Iron Man challenge, he will be cycling 112 miles, swimming 2.4 miles in the sea and running a 26-mile marathon across Pembrokeshire.

Angus, who has worked for the Trust for more than a decade, is aiming to complete it in 15 hours this Sunday (September 14) and raise £10,000.

He said: “Having never swam more than a length and only having ran half a marathon five years ago, I thought, with some gentle encouragement from friends, an Iron Man triathlon would be an interesting way to raise money for these great causes.”
