Appeal for witnesses after dad racially abused outside Redditch school

Redditch Editorial 20th Mar, 2018   0

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault that occurred on Reyde Close in Webheath on Wednesday, March 7.

At about 8.45am, a man got out of his car and approached another car that was stationary due to a traffic obstruction.

The man is reported to have pulled and twisted the car’s wing mirror, then opened the door and shouted racist abuse at the driver and spat at him.

The man who committed the assault is described as white, aged 25 to 35 years and about 5ft 8 inches to 5ft 9 inches (1m 73cm to 1m 75cm) tall.

He had an athletic build, short light brown or blonde hair, spoke with a London or Essex accent, and was wearing a beige jumper.

His car was silver coloured and possibly a Volkswagen Golf.

Constable Martyn Dudley from Redditch Police Station said: “This was a racist verbal and physical assault on a dad who’d just dropped his child off at school, and it was extremely distressing for him.

“It was a busy time of day and we know that there would have been many drivers – perhaps other parents or carers on the school run – who saw it happen, so we’d urge them to get in touch and support our investigation.

“We’d especially like to speak to anyone who has dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV footage of the incident.”

To share information about this incident, phone the police on 101 and give incident reference number 0169S of 7 March 2018. You can also report information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by phoning 0800 555 111 or visiting crimestoppers-uk.org.
