Appeal to help Redditch family sees cash pouring in

A CAMPAIGN to fix-up a downstairs bathroom for a seriously ill Redditch man has raised almost a thousand pounds in less than 24 hours.

After learning about the illness of her cousin Melissa’s husband, Lee, Jodi Clark launched the campaign in a bid to raise funds and find volunteers to install an accessible washroom at their home in Headless Cross.

39 year-old Lee Hart was diagnosed with a large brain tumour in November 2016 after experiencing severe headaches and the treatment is badly affecting his balance.

This means that much of everyday life – especially walking up stairs – can be difficult and as the only breadwinner for the family following Lee’s illness, wife Melissa is concerned about Lee being by himself.

She got in touch with Kensi Hope Interiors, where Jodi works, to get a downstairs toilet installed and when staff at the Moons Moat-based company heard of their plight, they were keen to do as much as possible to help.

Melissa, aged 37, said: “I am so overwhelmed by people’s kindness – people that don’t even know us are willing to give time and money to make our lives easier. I can’t believe it.

“This will make such a difference to both of us.”

Jodi and the other staff decided they would not only complete the work for the cheapest price possible, but would create a full downstairs wetroom for Lee.

After Jodi set up a Crowdfunding page on Wednesday (February 1)  the cause has already reached more than £900 and she is hoping more will roll in.

“When I saw the page less than 24 hours after it went live, it brought tears to me eyes to see how much people had given,” said Jodi.

“Lee spent 16 years in the army, protecting and fighting for our country. I think it’s the least we can do to donate some time, money and goods to help him out.”

Workmen, builders, plasterers, plumbers and decorators in the area are all invited to give a few hours of their time to help the cause, and anyone wishing to help can get in touch with Jodi on 01527 66095 or visit  https://www.facebook.com/kensihopeinteriors/?hc_ref=SEARCH
