GETTING more young people in to apprenticeships was the topic of discussion for MP Karen Lumley when she visited a borough business.
Mrs Lumley spoke to Faun Zoeller’s chief executive Simon Hyde about the importance of offering apprenticeships last Friday (January 16).
As a former apprentice himself, Mr Hyde has worked with the company to develop young talent, including sponsoring the APSE apprenticeship scheme for the last five years.
The manufacturing company has now committed to a further five years and will be taking finalists from the awards to their production site in Bremen for a tour of one their factories and the chance to meet other apprentices.
Mrs Lumley said in her constituency the trainee scheme was up by more than 55 per cent, with over 3,500 new apprentices since 2010.
“Whenever I meet with local employers one of our main topics of discussion is always how to get more young people into their businesses. Apprentices are the CEOs and managing directors of the future, and companies need young people in order to build their businesses. I will be working with Simon and with other local employers in the future to help secure the future of our young people.”
