ARMED police descended on Arrow Valley Park shutting off the lakeside area by the visitor centre this morning following reports of gunshots.

As their helicopter flew overheard, at least nine police cars were in the area as armed officers with dogs combed the area.

One bystander said she had heard a noise like gunshots or a bird scarer going off and thought it could either be a gun or fireworks.

An employee from the park’s visitor centre added: “It is a bit worrying, one of our regular customers said they heard gunshots this morning.”

A visitor to the park, who was with her young child, said she left the play area after hearing the shots and was advised by a police officer to stick to the one side of the lake.

She added: “We thought it would be best not to walk around the lake today.”

A police spokesperson said: “We received reports of noises which have been described as possible crow scares or gun shots in Redditch.

“As a precaution, armed officers have been deployed to a wooded area of Arrow Valley County Park.

“Officers have isolated the area but no one was has been sighted and we have not established any particular threats to the public.

“We would like to remind any persons carrying out pest control should use appropriate land and only with the land owners permission.”

Officers had left the scene by 1.10pm with no arrests made.
