Army days and more as Lorna launches new programme with tall tales

REDDITCH Older Peoples Forum kicks off 2020 with a meeting featuring the highly entertaining guest speaker Lorna White MBE.

Lorna, who joined the ATS in 1943 aged just 17, will be talking about her last trip from Singapore in 1957 when she was still a soldier in the Army.

She’ll also be giving a humorous take on her early military life, when she maintained vehicles and drove 3-ton Bedford trucks.

As a young woman in a man’s world she endured all kinds of experiences before eventually ending up as chief clerk in Malaya.

Her last promotion could have meant a posting to Cyprus but instead she chose marriage to George in 1959 – and Redditch gained a treasure from the British Army.

The Forum’s meeting is on Thursday, January 9 at the Ecumenical Centre in Evesham Walk, and all older people are invited to go along and listen to Lorna’s tales for a great start to the new year.

Plus there will also be a quiz. It all starts at 10.15 and entry is £1 which includes endless tea and coffee.
