THE NEXT generation of teachers are set to be taught by the borough’s own professionals.
RSA Academy Arrow Vale is one of only 60 schools in England to become a teaching school in this round of a national programme.
It means they will take a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants, identifying leadership potential and providing support for other schools.
Headteacher Guy Shears said: “I am delighted Arrow Vale has been granted teaching school status as part of the RSA Academies Teaching School alliance. This will enable us to extend and develop our work in Redditch and beyond to support teachers at all stages of their careers.”
Charlie Taylor, chief executive of the National College for Teaching and Leadership which has responsibility for the programme, said the Green Sward Lane school should be ‘very proud’ of their achievement.
“The school has been recognised as a centre of excellence in its area, with an outstanding performance and a track record of raising standards through supporting other schools.
“There are now 600 teaching schools around the country with more to follow. They are at the heart of an increasingly school-led system, leading the way in improving the quality of our teachers and helping the schools in their partnership to become even better.
“Like teaching hospitals, they have become centres of excellence across the country, conducting research and training teachers.”
