Arts in Redditch celebrates 10th anniversary

Redditch Editorial 23rd May, 2024   0

ARTS in Redditch is celebrating a significant milestone this month, marking 10 years since its first pop-up gallery in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Launched in May 2014 as a showcase for local artists to exhibit and sell their work, the galleries made use of vacant retail premises offered by then general manager Ken Williams, who embraced the opportunity to introduce new activity in the centre.

The idea was the brainchild of Malcolm Hall, past Chairman of Arts in Redditch, supported by Philip Roberts, current secretary and trustee of the organisation, which became a registered charity in 2016.

Since 2014, pop-up galleries have been held twice a year, in May and November, the only exception being 2020 due to the pandemic.

Over this period, it is calculated that more than 200 local artists have participated, and over 30,000 people will have visited at least one pop-up gallery.

The pop-up gallery is open between 10am and 4pm everyday until Sunday, May 26.
