Astwood Bank Girl Guides appeal to rumbling Redditch tummies

AN INTREPID Girl Guide troupe is hoping to win the hearts of Redditch residents by appealing to their rumbling tummies this weekend.

Members of Astwood Bank Girl Guides will host a Big Breakfast event at the town’s Ecumenical Centre, Evesham Walk, on Saturday (March 5) between 9am and 12 noon as a fund-raiser for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

The breakfast is the latest in a series of events the girls have hosted to help fund a trip to a guiding world centre in Switzerland this July.

But first the company needs to raise £14,500 – £650 per girl – to fund travel, accommodation and international neck ties for 22 guides.

Guide leaders Carmen Price and Karen Williams took on Astwood Bank Guides in February last year with just six guides in the troupe.

But now the word is out and the women are leading a company of 25 girls – all dedicated to the fund-raising effort.

Breakfasts will be priced at £4 and the guides, who will be acting as waitresses at the event, promise a healthy option of fruit salad or weetabix (£1.50) will be on offer along with the usual fry up.
