Astwood Bank Royal British Legion celebrates 93rd anniversary

THE ASTWOOD Bank branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) is celebrating its 93rd anniversary.

It was established on March 3 1933, and has become a key part of the community in the village.

The branch has always been focused on Remembrance, welfare, and fundraising.

In the early years, meetings were held in local venues – men’s gatherings were sometimes hosted in pubs like the old Coach and Horses – now the nursery, while separate women’s gatherings took place in community halls, reflecting social norms of the time.

The branch organises the annual Remembrance Sunday parade and service at the village war memorial on Evesham Road to honour those who served and sacrificed.

Through the annual Poppy Appeal, the branch regularly raises significant funds, often around £30,000 per year,  to support the Legion’s welfare work.

It also helps connect local veterans and their families with the wider support network of the national Royal British Legion.

The Astwood Bank branch depends on volunteers and they are appealing for more help for their Remembrance events, the Poppy Appeal and veteran support.

Call the branch on 07588 339379 or email: [email protected] to get in touch.
