Avoncroft Museum re-opens backed by bumper Lottery grant

AVONCROFT Museum has received a much-needed financial boost after being awarded £141,400 of emergency funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to help it through the Coronavirus pandemic.

The popular open air museum in nearby Bromsgrove has just re-opened for visitors following the introduction of appropriate coronavirus safety measures.

The museum has been closed since the end of March as part of the Covid-19 public safety restrictions – leaving a massive hole in the attraction’s finances.

However over the last few weeks the independent charity that runs it has been making the site ready and as safe as possible for visitors.

Initially the museum’s grounds will be open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays only and visitors will need to go to Avoncroft’s website to book tickets online in advance.

Acting deputy director Nick Sturgess said: “We can’t wait to have visitors return to Avoncroft, we’ve really missed seeing people enjoy our grounds and buildings.

“Once things are up and running, we hope to be able to quickly re-open the Tea Room for takeaway drinks and snacks as well as some of our larger historic buildings.

Then we’ll look at phasing even more back in. Our main priority though is to keep you safe whilst still providing a great visitor experience.”

The 19-acre museum, which has a collection of over thirty historic buildings from across the midlands region is also home to the National Collection of Telephone Kiosks.
