Back with a bang: Food Festival, Jubilee weekend and more

Redditch Editorial 20th May, 2022   0

THE bunting is out as it’s all happening in Alcester in the weeks ahead, kicking off with its famous food festival this Saturday, May 21.

Once again food producers and traders both local and from across the country will pack the High Street to show off their wares.

Not only will there be a fantastic range of excellent food and drink but also, Alcester Court Leet has agreed to hold a mini assizes, which date right back to medieval times.

To ease traffic flow the town will once again be running a park and ride system from 9am until the close of day.

The following weekend there’s Alcester Royal British Legion’s fundraising coffee morning followed on the Sunday by the Alcester 10k around this leafy part of South Warwickshire.

After that it’s the Jubilee Weekend celebrations and Alcester will be marking the occasion in true British style.

On Thursday, June 2, from 6pm there will be a picnic on the Centenary Fields with a fancy dress competition – both for people and their canine companions – with music from the Alcester Victoria Silver Band and choirs culminating in the church bells ringing out, the singing of the National Anthem and the lighting of a beacon at 9.15pm

Then on Sunday it’s picnic time again with the High Street being closed to traffic and a picnic and music on the church green including the fabulous Tarantala Choir, Sally Rose Duo, Emma Skip Band, and Euphoria Group with final words from Mayor Kathryn Cargill and the road re-opening at 7pm.

“On June 12, we then have the Court Leet street market too – so Alcester really is back with a bang,” said Mayor Cargill.
