BAKE Off came to Studley last Friday when Sian Smith of the Studley in Business group organised a fund raising competition and coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at the ArtistsWorkhouse.

The event was judged by district councillor Hazel Wright and Redditch and Alcester Standard editor Ross Crawford who were faced with an array of cakes all baked by members of the local business community.

“It was hard work but someone had to do it,” said Ross. “Luckily Hazel and I discovered we had similar tastes.”

Hazel added: “The array of cakes was fantastic and a credit to everyone who baked them. Judging was incredibly difficult but we had our favourites and in the end there was a clear winner.”

That accolade went to local mum Emma Sharman, who runs her own successful business – Marketing Hat – and whose Spiced Apple Cake, featuring homegrown Discovery apples and chillies, cardomom and eggs laid by her own hens was simply delicious.

“It had a very good texture, was moist and really flavoursome – an absolute treat,” said Hazel.

Organiser Sian, of Cloverleaf Business Development said: “I arranged all this as a way of bringing the business community in Studley and I’m thrilled by the way everyone has supported it.

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped and came along and also Monsoon Estates who provided all our coffee for us.”

In all £530.95 was raised for Macmillan while left over cake was donated to the village’s four care homes.
