SOME simply stunning blooms will be going on show when Burcot Garden Nursery between Redditch and Bromsgrove hosts the annual Shirley Chrysanthemum Society show.
The society, which despite the name has no members from Shirley, has been going for some 75 years and this year’s show will be a real test of the grower’s art due to the long hot summer.
“It’s been a challenging year, no doubt about it,” said society member John Rogers, from Redditch.
“The optimum temperature for growing chrysanthemums is around 50 degrees but this year it was getting into the 80s and 90s.”
Despite that close to 150 blooms are expected to go on show to be given the once over by two top national standard judges who will be travelling up from Hereford for the day.
The event is on Thursday, November 8 with judging from 1.30pm and everyone is invited along to marvel at the blooms.
