REDDITCH’S Bel Canto Singers have donated £1,000 to a town foodbank.

The choir raised the cash by holding concerts throughout the year and presented the cheque to Reddicth foodbank on Thursday.

The choir is led by Liz Green and Wendy Quirk and has recently performed at St Bartholomew Church Tardebigge and St Chad’s Church Rubery.

The group chooses a charity or organisation each year to raise cash for and this year the foodbank was the worthy recipient.

Rev Ian Evans, project manager of the foodbank said: “We are really grateful for the money raised – we will use it to continue to support those in crisis, as there is more every day who are in need of help.”

Polly Speers, chairperson for the choir and Veronica Porter, secretary, delivered the cheque on behalf of Bel Canto.

They said: “Each year the choir raises money and we were more than happy that the foodbank was chosen this year.

“The choir attracts people from all over, from all different backgrounds.

“We hope this money will help lift some strain off the foodbank.”
