Bidford Bridge closed after vehicle becomes wedged

BIDFORD Bridge remains shut today (Saturday) after a collision which has resulted in an Uber taxi becoming wedged across the carriageway.

The incident happened first thing this morning and according to local reports has caused damage to the Grade I listed structure.

According to a social media post by Stratford District councillor Darren Pemberton, the bridge needs to be inspected by a structural engineer before the vehicle gets extracted.

He said: “A structural engineer has been called out to assess the damage to the bridge. Until the engineer has been out it is not possible to say when the bridge will be open to foot or vehicle traffic.”

The bridge is not expected to be re-open most of the day he added.

It is not the first time that the historic bridge has been closed due to a collision with a vehicle. In 2015 it was closed for several months after a tractor collided with it causing substantial damage to stonework.
