Big hearted Redditch family conquer Snowdon in aid of Prostate Cancer UK

IT was best foot forward for one Redditch family after they scaled the biggest mountain in Wales in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Mandy Pearce, her brother Jason, daughter Kacey aged 12 and niece Bethany, 21, scaled Snowdon on Friday, raising more than £1,000 for the charity in the process.

“It was all organised by Bethany – she just fancied doing it for Prostate Cancer UK, for no one in particular, but for everyone to help them,” said Mandy, a teaching assistant from Lakeside.

The family did it as a team, Kacey, a student at Woodfield Middle School, getting special permission to have Friday off – after badgering staff to sponsor her.

“She just flew up Snowdon, and was moaning at us because we were so slow,” said proud mum Mandy.

Their ascent had been planned for March 17 but a severe weather warning meant that date had to be abandoned.

However on March 29 it was all systems go, the family rising at 3am, on the road for 4am and on the trail to the top at 7.30am after a quick breakfast.

“We had beautiful weather and the views were stunning – and it’s really inspired the girls,” said Mandy.

Team Pearce’s just giving page has now closed but if anyone would like to make a donation to their Prostate Cancer UK fund they can do so by dropping the money off at the Redditch Standard office in Church Green East marked as ‘Team Pearce Fund’ and care of editor Ross Crawford.

Cheques should be made payable to Prostate Cancer UK.
