STAFF at Morrisons supermarket are gearing up for a massive five-day fund-raising challenge in aid of Clic Sargent, the child cancer charity.
With a little help from their friends, it starts on Friday, January 31 with an in-store bike challenge to show how far it takes a family to go the distance for cancer treatment.
On Saturday, February 1 there will be a bucket collection for a performance by the Redditch Rock Choir at 11.30am, followed in the afternoon by the fantastic Charlotte Tonge – ‘The Singing Midwife’ – at 2pm and capped by staff member Gaz Pallett undergoing a sponsored beard shave which has already brought £230 into the kitty.
The entertainment continues on Sunday with a tombola and more singers taking to the stage.
They will be joined by Matchborough-based Revolutions Dance Studio which will be helping with a bag pack together with the Gemini Dance Group.
There will be more music on Monday, February 3, with local star Mitch Loveridge appearing at 2pm on Tuesday, February 4 to both rock and serenade shoppers on what is World Cancer Day.
“We will also be bucket collecting as we’re hoping to smash last year’s total of £3,300 and break through the £4,000 barrier,” said the store’s community champion Bev Allington.
People can also back Clic Sargent by joining in the store’s Smarties tube challenge.
“One tube holds £12 in 20ps and we already have Feckenham First School supporting us as well as St Thomas More First School and Alvechurch junior girls’ and boys’ football teams,” said Bev.
“We are so pleased with the community getting on board with us.
“Morrisons shoppers are fantastic and we just want to spread the word and say a big thank you for all the money raised which will be going to young lives vs cancer Clic Sargent.”
