CHILDREN at Birchensale Middle School raised an impressive £576 for The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity last Friday.

The charity, also known as WOSP, is the Polish equivalent of Children In Need.

Pupils and staff raised the cash by selling cakes and raffle tickets.

Katarzyna Okonska, EAL lead at Birchensale, said: “Overall it was a hugely successful day.

“Some of the students stood in front of the whole school to give speeches about the charity and its good deeds around the world.

“It was great to see the children delve into a new culture.”

Ms Okonska thanked charity members Kamila Poczatek, Katarzyna Tuchowska-Zysk and Robert Jankowski for visiting the school.

“Also pupils, their parents, staff and of course our headteacher Mr Jones who let this event happen for the second year running.”
