A STUDENT from Birchensale Middle School in Redditch has won a European Day of Languages contest run by Rosetta Stone – a computer-based learning programme that includes a language learning platform.
Pupil Priscila Bustamante-Gonzales moved to Redditch from Spain in September 2018, and at the time spoke very little English.
The ten-year-old was introduced to Rosetta Stone when she started at Birchensale, to help her learn the language.
Rosetta Stone is a programme the school uses with all its English as an Additional Language (EAL) pupils.
The school completed the highest usage per student over the designated period and Priscilla was the pupil with the highest usage overall in the UK.
As a result she won an iPad for coming first in this nationwide competition.
“It is the best way to learn a language,” said Priscilla.
“I do Rosetta Stone not because I have to do it…I do it because I love it! and I look forward to use it to learn even more.”
Katarzyna Okonska, EAL Lead Teacher at Birchensale said: “When a non-English speaking child moves to the school, there is always a challenging transition period as they attempt to settle in and Rosetta Stone helps them to do this more quickly.”
