BIRCHENSALE Middle School celebrated World Book Day last week with a dress up day for teachers and pupils.

The whole school fully embraced the event with everyone turning up in a variety of amazing costumes, depicting their favourite book characters.

Each pupil in school also received one of the £1 World Book Day Tokens to encourage them with their reading.

The tokens can either be exchanged for one of ten special £1 World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book costing £2.99 or more.

Tokens can be redeemed at most UK bookshops and larger supermarkets.

This year’s selection includes works from authors including Jacqueline Wilson, David Walliams and David Almond.

Laura Ridgewell, head of English at the school, said: “This year we had such a fantastic range of characters, it really created a buzz around school.

“Reading is something we actively encourage here at Birchensale Middle School, and by celebrating World Book Day we are also challenging them to read new and exciting books too.”
