THE fund-raising efforts of pupils at Birchensale Middle School have been shown on Polish TV after they played their part in the country’s massive WOSP charity event last week.
WOSP -the equivalent of Children in Need in the UK and known in Poland as The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity – is held annually and raises vital funds for medical supplies both in Poland and elsewhere in the world.
The main one in Redditch was held last Sunday, January 30 and proved a massive success, but the pupils at Birchensale beat them too it holding their event on January 28.
The school’s English as an Additional Language lead Katarzyna Okonska, whose son was helped by the charity, said students had held a non-uniform day in exchange for £1 which went to the charity.
“We raised £340, all of which will go to this well deserving charity,” she said.
“Overall, it was brilliant to see the effort and dedication made by pupils and staff at Birchensale. It brought everyone joy and was a very successful event. I hope that next year we can make it even bigger!”
Not only that but headteacher Mark Brazier, along with head boy Harry Bacon and head girl Priscila Bustamante-Gonzales even took part in a video to be shown on Polish TV.
WOSP mainly supports hospitals and children in Poland, but also donates to other health causes around the world.
It supports refugees, school for blind pupils in Rwanda, hospitals in Sri-Lanka and engages in international humanitarian actions.
