Biting cold, wind and rain no barrier to Redditch's Quattro Pensions crew

Correspondent 25th Jun, 2019

SUPER cyclists from Quattro Pensions on Prospect Hill braved torrential rain and howling winds to successfully complete their Coast to Coast bike ride last week.

They had a mission to complete – fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Redditch Nightstop so they just kept on going.

And there literally was blood, sweat and tears on the road caused by a few crashes as the team negotiated perilous descents and soaking brakes.

“These were not hardy well-prepared regular cyclists with all the kit – they were good hearted actuaries and pensions administrators doing their bit for others on heavy old bikes and minus all the snazzy kit,” said Nicole Leckie of Quattro Pensions.

“Luckily, they all had a fantastic sense of team spirit, great sense of humour and were able to persist in the face of adversity.

“Four better equipped cyclists joined the team on Friday cycling 110 miles through the rain and wind in one day to meet them.

“Even they said the conditions were grim.”

The team spirit was kept alive too back in the head office in Redditch.

Tom Longe decided donations were not coming in fast enough and offered to have his hairy legs waxed if they hit £2,000 by the end of the day.

“That target was quickly reached and matched by an equally hairy Luke Evans who said he would wax his legs if they got to £2,500,” said Nicole.

“This target was also quickly reached, blood thirsty lot the supporters are!”

With a final anonymous donation of £1,000 the thrilled but elated team completed their challenge on Saturday and headed for a much-needed warming curry.

The total raised currently sits at £5,291 which with gift aid takes it to £6,342.51 over triple their original target.

The Quattro team will continue fundraising for their two charities of 2019 with samosa sales, car washes and a sleep out with Redditch Nightstop.
