A CLIMATE Change working group looks set to be re-established by Redditch Borough Council.
The move comes in response to a call for the authority to declare a climate emergency put by local resident Mike Bennett.
However at Tuesday night executive committee meeting pleas for the working group’s meetings to be held in public were rejected by the ruling Conservative group.
“Given that it was a question from the public and we agreed it was an important issue, I think there would be a lot of interest from the public to attend these meetings,” Councillor Bill Harnett (Lab, Church Hill) told the meeting. It’s not sending out the right message if we exclude them.”
However when put to the vote it was the Conservatives’ view that meetings would work on the basis of any other working party and be held behind closed doors – with the proviso to invite members of the public if need be – that prevailed.
