Brave Pete battles back with music EP to help others

A MUSICIAN who fought cancer and battled addiction has produced an EP to help others facing the disease.

Just two months after he had his leg amputated to cut out cancer, Pete Felton teamed up with Redditch music producer Alex Dudley to work on the digital disc while raising the profile of the cancers that affect young people.

Earlier this year doctors found a rare form of sarcoma cancer in 24-year-old Pete’s foot – and told him he would have to have to lose his leg to prevent the disease from spreading.

“I thought it was just a collapsed arch in one of my feet – I’d it for years, and I never really thought much of it,” he said.

“But they told me I had two choices – lose my leg, or face a much darker diagnosis. I knew what I had to do. I’d been in bad places before when battling addiction, but I was in recovery from that and knew I wanted to fight the cancer and live.”

Following the life changing surgery, Pete began writing music and although he had never played publicly before, he recorded a song and launched a Crowd Funding page to help him make the EP.

Wythall-based recording studio, dAudio, run by husband-and-wife duo Alex and Kate Dudley then got in touch.

They plan to record three tracks with a launch party in the new year to help raise awareness and support for the charities.

Pete wants to split any money raised from sales between Changes UK, which supports people recovering from drugs and alcohol, CLIC Sargent, which works with young people with cancer, and Sarcoma UK, which helps with all types of sarcoma cancer.

“My life has changed in every conceivable way – even getting up in the morning is a challenge now,” he said.

“But it’s been amazing to work on something positive and hopefully I can help other people catch cancer before it’s too late.”
