BATCHLEY First School is the talk of the town after opening a brand new Early Years Language class.
Taking children from across the borough, staff work with speech and language therapists to offer programmes to support the children’s speech and language development. The staff also work alongside other nurseries to support the children’s learning.
Such is the success of Batchley’s programme that it is also planning to open similar places in Bromsgrove and Kidderminster.
Mother of Amelia, Hayley said: “My daughter started in September. I was apprehensive at first because it is a specialised unit but since she has been coming to Redditch Early Years Language Class her speech has really come on. She loves to come and has made loads of friends.”
Oscar’s mum, Becky said: “My son Oscar really enjoys coming and because it is such a small class with one-to-one support it has really brought him on in a very short time.”
Headteacher Matt Whiteley said: “We know that children’s speech and language development can have a huge impact upon their outcomes when they get to school. The unit has, with the support of speech and language therapists and our own Inclusion team, set up an amazing resource.
“We are thrilled that their hard work is making a difference. We are looking forward to rolling out this provision to Bromsgrove and Kidderminster.”
The school, situated in Cherry Tree Walk, is also appealing for used toys and games in good condition for toddlers.
